OF
THE CATHOLIC DEFENSE LEAGUE
A Regular Meeting of the Board of Directors of the Catholic Defense League (CDL) was held pursuant to Notice on Tuesday, June 19, 2007 at the offices of the CDL in St. Paul, Minnesota. Present at the Meeting were the following Board Members: President, Patrick Phillips, Vice-President Ed Wollerman, Merlyn Scroggins, Patrick Shannon, Ray Marshall, Stella Lundquist and Dick Houck. The Meeting was called to order at 4:05 p.m. which began with a prayer to St. Michael and the following business ensued:
The Meeting was a series of discussion topics below:
Minutes of March 20th: The minutes for the meeting of March 20 were read and approved.
Treasurers Report Pat presented the Treasurers Report which was accepted and filed.
University of Minnesota Marlene congratulated the board members for its letters and actions taken in opposition to the performance of the play, The Pope and the Witch, at the University of Minnesota
Pat noted that an ad had been placed in the Minnesota Daily newspaper inviting students to contact the CDL if they should encounter anti-Catholic incidents or practices at the UofM.
Ministry Day He also reported on the appearance by several board members at the Archdiocesan Ministry Day at Mary, Mother of the Church Parish parish in Burnsville. Among others, conversations were held with Bishop Richard Pates and Father Kevin McDonough, Vicar General of the Archdiocese.
Discussion was held on the need for a "How to" Kit for volunteers who desire to assist the CDL in its programs.
Chaplain Further discussion was held on the need for a chaplain for the CDL. Dick moved and Merlyn seconded a motion to solicit Father Richard Skluzacek, pastor of St John the Baptist parish in New Brighton, to be our chaplain. Motion carried.
Sunday Bulletin Flyer Discussion was held on the flyer inserted in the Sunday Bulletin of Holy Childhood parish in St. Paul. It was thought that this should be done in the Fall for four more parishes to see if it might be effective in gaining new members and increasing our visibility among the Catholic public. Parishes suggested were Epiphany, St Charles Borromeo, St Ambrose and Holy Family in St Louis Park. A motion by Ed, seconded by Dick, authorized the expenditure of the funds needed. Motion carried.
Catholic League A discussion was held on the state of our relations with the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights headed by Bill Donohue in New York City. Dick Houck had contacted one of the Catholic League's affiliate offices to explore what they do. The answer is that outside of notifying the CL office of incidents they do little. The board expressed the opinion that no further exploration of mutual activity is warranted.
The meeting was adjourned at 5:15 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Ray Marshall & Pat Phillips
