More About the Catholic Defense League |
The Catholic Defense League is a group of Catholic men and women who further the work of the church in her mission of evangelization. Our work is to protect the church, its bishops, priests and religious from unwarranted attacks or misleading information from many sources but mainly print and broadcast media. This includes items such as:
The Church was the subject of much ridicule as a result of the recent sexual molestation scandal. It certainly is fair to report the facts. When reporting turns to exaggeration and hyperbole and all priests are implicated, that is an attack. Here are examples of cartoon ridicule: MSN-SLATE
First of all we look for friends like you to help, since we can't do it alone. We monitor periodicals and other news media and other publications, looking for insults to the church such as we have mentioned above. When we find one, we complain. Here again we need help. A complaint from a single person won't do much good.
The issues we are apprehensive about are of concern to Catholics everywhere. However, our principle area of watching is in Minnesota and adjacent states. This includes the newspapers of the Twin Cities and Duluth for example. We are also watchful of national items, such as op-ed pieces, which occur in local papers since it is the local paper which is giving the writers space to present their views.
The Catholic League is a separate, national organization. While there once was a more formal link between us there is none now. We share some common objectives and values. We, the Catholic Defense League, operate on a more regional basis (see Where we operate above). See the Related Links page for a pathway to their web site.
The Catholic Defense League is operated in conformance with the IRS Code Section 170(c)(2) Section 501(c)(3).
